The short answer
Pakistan has a mature and growing automotive plastic parts manufacturing sector, centred in Gujranwala, Karachi and Lahore. Pakistani moulders produce tail-lamp covers, headlamp housings, dashboard trim, bumper components, mudguards, wheel covers, connector housings, clips, fasteners, mirror casings, air-duct components and a wide range of underbody and interior trim. Both OEM supply (to assemblers like Indus Motor, Pak Suzuki, Atlas Honda, United Autos) and aftermarket parts are manufactured locally.
Quality has improved dramatically over the last decade. Materials are now globally-sourced (Sabic, LG Chem, BASF). Tooling is increasingly CNC-machined in-house rather than imported. And a growing number of Pakistani automotive plastic moulders — including Rehman Industry in Gujranwala — run Japanese-built injection moulding machines with the process control needed for OEM-grade parts.
What automotive plastic parts are made in Pakistan
Exterior: tail-lamp and headlamp lens covers (translucent ABS / acrylic), mudguards (PP / ABS), bumper reinforcements, wheel covers, mirror casings, body-side mouldings, spoiler components, licence-plate frames.
Interior: dashboard trim panels, door handle covers, AC vent housings, glove-box components, centre console trim, pillar covers, seat-back pockets.
Under-hood and functional: connector housings, cable clips, wire harness retainers, fan shrouds, air-intake components, battery covers, fluid reservoirs (blow-moulded, not injection — different process).
Motorcycle / two-wheeler: front and rear mudguards, fairing panels, side covers, handlebar covers, indicator housings, under-seat storage components.
Aftermarket: tail-lamp cover replacements (the most common aftermarket plastic part in Pakistan), side mirrors, body trim, and a long tail of model-specific cosmetic parts.
Where automotive plastic parts are made in Pakistan
Gujranwala (GRW) — the historic metalworking and mould-making centre. Strong in tail-lamp covers, mudguards, and small-to-medium precision parts. Many moulders also run in-house tool rooms. Rehman Industry has been here since 2006.
Karachi — the largest industrial cluster, close to port for imports/exports. Strong in large automotive components and blow-moulded parts. Proximity to the Indus Motor (Toyota) and Pak Suzuki plants.
Lahore — growing cluster, strong in motorcycle parts (close to Atlas Honda and United). Also produces dashboard trim and interior components.
Faisalabad and Sialkot — smaller clusters, mostly sub-contract work and aftermarket parts.
Materials used in Pakistani automotive moulding
ABS — the default for visible interior trim and lamp housings. Good surface finish, impact resistance, dimensional stability. Flame-class grades for electrical proximity.
Acrylic (PMMA) — for transparent or translucent lamp lenses. Excellent optical clarity, weather resistance.
Polypropylene (PP) — for mudguards, bumper reinforcements, wheel arch liners, underbody shields. Cheap, flexible, impact-resistant.
Nylon (PA) with glass-fill — for structural clips, connectors, fan shrouds, and under-hood parts that face heat. Strong, stiff, temperature-resistant.
Polycarbonate (PC) — for headlamp lenses requiring high impact resistance and UV stability.
ABS-PC blends — for parts needing both cosmetic surface quality and high impact — dashboard panels, interior handles.
Most raw material is imported (Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan, China) — Pakistan doesn't produce engineering-grade resin domestically. Commodity grades (PP, PE) are partially locally available.
Quality — what to expect from a Pakistani auto-parts moulder
The best Pakistani automotive moulders operate at quality levels comparable to entry-level OEM standards in Southeast Asia. What to look for:
First-article inspection (FAI). Before production starts, sample parts are dimensionally checked against your drawing. Any deviation is caught and corrected at the mould stage. If a moulder skips FAI, walk away.
In-process checks. Dimension, weight and visual checks on every production lot. Statistical process control (SPC) is not yet widespread in Pakistan, but the better moulders do check first-off / mid-run / last-off as a minimum.
Material traceability. Good moulders can tell you the resin grade, lot number and supplier for any part. This is mandatory for OEM supply.
What to realistically expect vs not. Pakistani moulders can hold ±0.05 mm on critical dimensions, produce Class-A cosmetic surfaces, run multi-cavity tools with balanced fill, and supply on a just-in-time basis to local OEM plants. What they generally can't do (yet): TS 16949 / IATF 16949 certification, fully automated inline vision inspection, or moulding with liquid silicone rubber (LSR). The gap is narrowing year by year.
Cost — how Pakistani auto-parts pricing compares
Tooling in Pakistan is 40–60% cheaper than imported moulds from China or Korea. A multi-cavity tail-lamp mould that would cost $8,000–12,000 from a Chinese tool shop can be built locally for PKR 400,000–700,000 (roughly $1,400–2,500).
Per-part cost is competitive with Chinese imports for parts that don't need to be shipped internationally. Local PP, ABS and PA prices track global commodity prices (currently PKR 280–1,100/kg depending on grade). Labour cost is lower than China for mould-making and press operation.
Where Pakistan loses on cost: complex multi-cavity tools (8+ cavities) where Chinese tool-makers have decades of specialisation, and very high-volume runs (millions per year) where Chinese automation levels are higher. For runs under 500,000 parts/year, Pakistani sourcing is almost always cheaper total-landed than Chinese imports.
Lead times
Tooling: 3–8 weeks for a typical automotive mould (depending on complexity), plus 1–2 weeks for sampling. Comparable to Chinese lead times, but without the international shipping delay.
Production: repeat runs are typically turned around in days, not weeks. Pakistani automotive moulders generally run 6 days/week, many 24/7 (Rehman Industry closes only on Friday — reach us any time).
Advantage of local sourcing: no sea freight lead time (saves 3–6 weeks vs China), easier to visit the factory for approvals, and faster response on engineering changes mid-production.
How to source automotive plastic parts in Pakistan
Step 1: Identify 2–3 moulders in the right city cluster (Gujranwala for tail-lamps/mudguards/precision, Karachi for large parts, Lahore for motorcycle).
Step 2: Send each the same RFQ: part drawing (3D file preferred), target material, estimated annual volume, quality requirements (cosmetic class, tolerances).
Step 3: Compare quotes side by side. The middle quote from a moulder with a factory you've visited is usually the right pick. Be wary of the cheapest — ask what steel they're using for the mould.
Step 4: Run a DFM review (free at good moulders) before committing to tooling.
Step 5: Approve T1/T2 samples before green-lighting production. Never skip this.
