The real answer to how many parts you need to order from a Pakistani injection moulder — MOQ realities, tooling economics, and how to make small runs viable.

The short answer

There is no industry-wide minimum order quantity (MOQ) for plastic injection moulding in Pakistan. The real minimum depends on tooling cost vs per-part economics — not on an arbitrary number a factory pins to the wall.

Most Pakistani moulders, including Rehman Industry, will run as few as 100 pieces if you already have a mould. If tooling needs to be built from scratch, the practical minimum is whatever quantity makes the tooling investment worthwhile to you — and we'll help you do that maths before you commit.

Why MOQ exists in injection moulding

Injection moulding has a high setup cost (the mould) and a low running cost (each part). A steel mould for a simple part costs PKR 80,000–200,000. Once the mould exists, running 500 parts vs 5,000 parts takes the same setup time — the only difference is machine hours and raw material.

So the question isn't 'will the factory accept my small order?' — it's 'does the per-part cost make sense at my volume?'

A worked example

Suppose your mould costs PKR 150,000 and each part costs PKR 15 to run. At 500 pieces, your effective cost per part is PKR 315 (150,000 ÷ 500 + 15). At 5,000 pieces, it drops to PKR 45. At 50,000, it's PKR 18. The mould cost is the same — the only thing that changes is how many parts you spread it across.

This is why moulders talk about volume tiers, not MOQs. We quote at 3–4 volume points so you can see exactly where the cost curve flattens.

What determines the practical minimum

If you already own a mould: the minimum is essentially whatever covers the setup and material cost. For most parts, that's 100–500 pieces. Some moulders set a minimum charge (e.g. PKR 5,000–10,000 per run) rather than a piece count, to cover machine setup time. If you need a new mould built: the practical minimum is the volume at which your per-part cost becomes competitive with alternatives (CNC machining, 3D printing, or importing). For most small plastic parts in Pakistan, that crossover happens around 500–1,000 pieces. Below that, 3D printing or CNC machining is often cheaper per unit even though the unit cost is higher — because there's no tooling investment.

If you're testing a new product: consider a soft mould (aluminium or low-grade steel). Costs 40–60% less than a production mould, handles 500–5,000 shots, and lets you validate the product before investing in full tooling. If the product takes off, you commission a production mould and the soft-mould cost was your market research budget.

How Pakistani moulders handle small orders in practice

The honest reality is that most Pakistani moulders prefer large-volume, repeat-order customers — they keep machines running and margins healthy. But that doesn't mean small orders are turned away. Here's how it typically works:

New customer, new mould, small volume (under 1,000 pieces): the moulder will quote tooling + per-part. If you accept the per-part cost at that volume (which will be higher than the 10,000-piece price), the order runs. No drama.

New customer, existing mould (you bring your own): most moulders will accommodate runs as small as 200–500 pieces, subject to a minimum production charge.

Repeat customer, existing mould: this is where flexibility is highest. Once your mould sits in the factory and the relationship is established, reorder quantities of 100–300 pieces are routine. The setup is known, the settings are dialled in, and the moulder knows you'll be back.

What you should never hear: 'our minimum is 10,000 pieces, no exceptions.' That's a moulder who doesn't want your business. Walk away — there are plenty in Pakistan who do.

How to make small runs more cost-effective

Multi-cavity moulds for planned volume. If you know you'll need 500 pieces/month for a year, a 4-cavity mould costs more upfront but cuts your per-part cost by nearly 4×. Amortised over 6,000 annual parts, the extra tooling cost pays for itself within months.

Family moulds. If you have 2–3 small parts that are always ordered together (e.g. a lid, a body, and a gasket ring), a family mould produces all three in one shot. One setup, one mould cost, three parts per cycle.

Standardise materials. If every order uses a different resin, the moulder has to purge the barrel each time (wasted material + time). Picking one material across your product line reduces changeover cost and gets you better per-kg resin pricing.

Bundle orders. If you need 200 of Part A and 300 of Part B, place them together. The moulder sets up once, runs both, ships together. Combined minimum charge beats two separate small-order charges.

MOQ comparison: Pakistan vs China vs local alternatives

Chinese moulders (via Alibaba): typical MOQ is 1,000–5,000 pieces, sometimes higher. Tooling is comparable in price but the shipping, customs and communication overhead makes orders under 5,000 pieces impractical for Pakistani buyers.

Pakistani moulders: practical MOQ of 100–1,000 pieces depending on setup. No shipping delay, easy factory visits, WhatsApp communication. For small-to-medium volume, local sourcing wins on total cost and flexibility.

3D printing (Pakistan): no MOQ at all — you can order 1 piece. But unit cost is 10–50× higher than injection moulding, material options are limited, and surface finish is inferior. Best for prototypes and orders under 50–100 units.

CNC machining (Pakistan): no mould needed, MOQ of 1. Per-part cost is high but predictable. Best for 1–200 units of simple geometry parts where mould investment doesn't make sense.

Bottom line

The minimum order for plastic injection moulding in Pakistan is not a fixed number — it's the point where moulding becomes cheaper than the alternatives for your specific part. For most products, that point is 500–1,000 pieces with a new mould, or as low as 100 pieces with an existing mould.
